Gletscher-Requiem
A farewell in layers
The glaciers are melting. The slopes lack snow. The permafrost is thawing. What just held the peaks and flanks together threatens to tumble into the valley. In the face of dwindling time, an evening of theater is created that centers on the feverish patient and the question of what life-prolonging measures should be taken next. Accompanied by the sounds of the Grisons electric bassist Martina Berther, the ensemble gathers at the deathbed of the white giant: Ski racers without a place to train, mountaineers without a business model, alpine cows without water and unheard scientists. While some plead for covering the glacier in summer or for artificial snowmaking, others take it into their prayers. “Gletscher Requiem” (Glacier Requiem) is a sensual, grotesque requiem for the “no-longer-so-eternal ice” and a retrospective look at a tragicomic present.
